Meeting boyfriend for lunch in Tsim Sha Tsui on a Saturday is insane. There were lines every where to eat. So we randomly came here: 稻埕飯店 (English name: Dào Chéng Taiwanese Restaurant). Apparently from the same group who create Teawood. This restaurant also serves Taiwanese food but a bit more fancier with a price increase.But we came during afternoon tea time. But we came during afternoon tea time. They had an afternoon tea menu. Menu is in English and Chinese. You order by using their QR code menu to order. However, though they had an English menu, the afternoon tea menu was in Chinese only where as the a la carte menu was in both English and Chinese. Why was that? Thus, my tip is if you want to order from the afternoon tea menu, ask to have the paper menu as that is bilingual.
Afternoon tea sets come with a drink with add ons for upgrades. They also have snacks for an added price.
I upgraded my drink toa black sesame soy milk ($8). This arrived with black sesame on top. They looked like little mites at first. It was ok. A bit powdery from the sesame powder added.
Boyfriend also upgraded with a Lemon Aiyu Jelly ($8). His go to drink when at Teawood but somehow this one was better. A lot more icy and a lot more jelly. It also tasted better with a better balance of sweet and sour.
Boyfriend ordered the Stewed Beef Shank, Beef Tripe and Beef Tendon with Handmade Noodles in Soup ($78). The soup was good though we both felt Teawood's tasted better. The tendon was so hard, I couldn't bite into it. But the tripe and beef shank were quite good and tender. The noodles were chewy and smooth. There were also some carrots and daikon to soak up the soup. The egg was super salty.
I had the Fried Chicken Wings in Taiwanese Style ($58) and added $18 for a Taiken Premium Rice with Braised Pork. We waited a long time for this but then it arrived. On a robotic server cart who greeted us that food was served before saying thank you for dining as it peddled away. The chicken wings were amazing! Super crispy coating that was well seasoned. The meat was literally juicy as the oil squirted out when you bit into it. The rice was ok. The pork was very well flavored and enough to coat the entire bowl of rice.
Overall the food was quite good. An improved versio of Teawood and would probably be back.
