This is conveniently located for the office workers around One / Two Pacific Place, right next to the taxi waiting area. It is not too crowded during lunch and the line moves reasonably fast so this is my #1 pick for days when the few other available options are over-crowded.
Small bowl salad ($52): It's like a DIY salad bar except you point and the server decides how much to put in your bowl. My main gripe with the salad here is that its overly oily, which overpowers the flavors (which are OK). These are the typical choices
- Caesar salad: Nice fresh crunchy lettuce but WAY too much Caesar dressing. Good if you're trying to ease into a healthier diet from a mayonnaise - and - cream type fast food diet but not good for the health-conscious. The flavor is good though
- Tomato salad: Never tried this before, so won't comment
- Pasta salad: Again, good flavors but too oily. It comes dressed in a basil pesto like dressing but every mouthful coats your lips with olive oil -- unhealthy!
- Mushroom salad: Again, good flavors but too oily. This consists of mixed mushrooms with garlic in a garlicky olive oil dressing. The mushrooms are literally coated in a thin layer of oil and slippery.
- Cauliflower salad: Fresh, crunchy, perfectly cooked cauliflower with raisins, same oiliness problem, but great flavor.
- Broccoli salad: This is the least oily because it's grilled, but the downside is the broccoli sometimes is over-grilled and comes slightly charred. Cancer fears aside, the charred broccoli usually affects the taste of the other salads in the bowl as well, so I've stopped ordering this
- Quinoa salad: This is my favorite of the lot. Not too oily, the quinoa is perfectly cooked (not overcooked so it still has great texture and bite), and a great balanced flavor
- Beetroot salad: The beetroots are refreshing and slightly sweet, so a good way to balance the oiliness above
The brownie ($16) and raspberry chocolate tart ($16) here are good and come with a rich natural chocolatey flavor and great buttery tart pastry, but take literally two mouthfuls to finish, so a bit on the pricey side.
All in all, a decent choice for lunch. Perhaps for the salads they could be less heavy handed on the dressing and offer patrons the option of having dressing on the side!
