Genuinely my favorite spot to grab a baked good. Tucked into a quiet corner, the staff is always friendly and the smell inside is incredible! Always recommending people to swing by here ☺️ The cinnamon twists are always a must, but I try something new each time. The fruit pastries in particular always taste super fresh and are the perfect balance of sweet and savory! …
Feeling the need to take a breather, I decided to have a quick lunch in Sheung Wan and take my time for a walk back to Central despite the weather. I'm so, so glad I decided to head back on foot, otherwise I wouldn't have come across Po's Atelier. Po's Atelier. Thankfully, it was only drizzling by the time I began to make my way back after a light lunch. As I reached the end of Po Hing Fong, a shop with minalistic decor, with its wide sliding door opened, caught my eyes.As I walked in slowly and closed my umbrella carefully, I found myself surrounded by the incredibly lovely aroma of fresh bread, cream and butter. That sweet smell of fresh-from-the-oven bread, trapped in this chic bakery on a humid day like this, simply melted my heart. Thanks to the moisture in the air, the aroma was amplified- it smells like heaven. For a moment, I thought I was in Paris. As an amateur baker (of cakes) in love with bread and sourdough, I feel pretty ashamed of myself for not knowing this place and paying a visit earlier. At this point, I took my phone out for a quick research (and of course, pictures!), and realised - how silly of me - how could I have missed this all along? On a rainy day like this, with a sudden craving for sweets, my eyes were immediately drawn towards the little display card of <Chocolate and Fig Danish>. Unfortunately, it was sold out. The shopkeeper - a lovely and helpful lady - immediately recommended the signature Danish of the day, which was one with Tomato and Cheese (think it was brie). Upon learning my craving for something sweet, she recommended the <Pain Au Chocolat>. The Pain Au Chocolat, overflowing with chocolate filling, looked absolutely delicious in a devilish way.的確 好吸引 --- 清楚睇到 一層 一層 酥皮--- 朱古力份量都睇落好足^ Look at how chubby they are! Exactly what good puff pastries are all about Bearing in mind that I've just had lunch (albeit a light one), I felt too guilty to indulge in a pain au chocolat and went for the <Cinnamon Loaf> instead. (Trying to convince myself that it's a healthier choice haha!) 始終o岩o岩食咗lunch 所以,最後揀咗 <肉桂麵包> (其實係自我感覺良好d 定係自欺欺人 XD)^ Look at how beautifully thick the loaf is...!Curious about the batches of freshly baked buns topped with pistachios (or pumpkin seeds... I couldn't tell for sure), which were not displayed, I asked the friendly shopkeeper what flavour were they in. She said they were potato buns specially made for a restaurant. I wonder where I could try them out.I couldn't wait to enjoy the Cinnamon Loaf...As I sliced through it with a fruit knife (the only one I had in hand), I was first super delighted to see how swiftly the knife went through the crust, and that the loaf "sprang back", showing how soft, fresh and spongy it was. Then, I was slightly disappointed to see that there was no sign of cinnamon at the cross-section. Nevertheless, I totally forgot that slight disappointment upon my first bite.Yummm.... It was really, really good. This Cinnamon Loaf was in fact a brioche, and yet the buttery cinnamon crust was not overpowering- it was, in my opinion, aptly buttery and sweet, and did not outshine the moist, soft and spongy white bread. I could not hold back the urge to have a second slice - yes, I know I said I just had lunch! And I'm glad I did - because that made me realised I was too early to judge and to feel slightly disappointed with the absence of cinnamon at the cross-section. 原來,個麵包芯 係 有 肉 桂 架!Turned out there was indeed a beautiful swirl of cinnamon!Super excited.I was about to have a big bite when I suddenly noticed how beautifully caramelised the bottom of the Cinnamon Loaf was!It was so beautiful that I managed to resist the urge to dig into it heartily, and let my camera ate first 即刻忍口俾相機食先 ^ Look at the swirl of cinnamon and the heavenly caramelised bottom...! As a big fan of cinnamon I only wish there was more...(Nevertheless, all in all I still think this deserves a 5-star rating!)Although I've never made bread on my own, I guess having a swirl of cinnamon throughout the bread should be achievable. Too full to finish the last 1/3 of this heavenly tasty Cinnamon Loaf fresh on the same day, I gladly gave it to my colleague who was just about to start his late lunch at his desk. Not being a particular fan of cinnamon, he was cool with the absence of cinnamon filling in his 1/3, and totally agreed with me that it was absolutely delicious Can't wait to visit again and try all the amazing pastries and bread! ;))…
I am a big fan of bakery products and I love trying bread and pastries from different pâtisserie in every parts and corners of Hong Kong. Passion by Gerard Dubois, Patisserie Tony Wong, Clover Cake & Coffee House, 上野酵素麵包生活館 are just few of the many shops I have visited. Since I am passing by Sheung Wan on my way to work. I decided to visit one of the famous bakeries nearby, Po's Atelier. There were sconuts (scone + donut) and some other sticks and bread when I arrived the bakery at 9:30am. I have tried cronuts (croissant + donut) in The Mandarin Cake Shop and Swissbeck before but I have never tried sconuts. The cronuts were superb so I am guessing that sconut, being a close relative, would be worth trying as well. There are three flavors available: chocolate, cinnamon and raisin. I go for the cinnamon sconut and here is the photo of it:The cinnamon flavor wasn't strong at first bite but it left a nice aftertaste. The sconut is a bit too sweet and it lacks the savor of buttermilk and the slight saltiness which are the to-die-for factor of scone. In terms of texture, it has a thick coat of crispy, sugary crust outside which is more like a biscuit than a scone or a donut. Nevertheless, the inner layer of the sconut resembles the dryness and coarseness of the scone. There were simply no trace of donuts in terms of both flavor and texture...the oiliness perhaps?Anyway, I get a little picky when it comes to pastries. The sconut was still fairly decent overall.…
One of our friend really raves about the bread at Po's Atelier so we came here to check it out as we were in the area for lunch. They had quite a few selection on showcase from bread to pastries to cookies. We noticed that they had Japanese writing on the price tags and inquired about that. They explained that they had a Japanese consultant when they first opened the bakery. Po's Classic ($14) - we got one of their their small baguette to try first. It was a bit too floury as sprinkles of flour would drop everytime we touched the bread, but the structure was excellent while aromatic and flavorful. Would like to try their other pastries next time!…
I usually don't write reviews, but my friends recommended to go here for food & bread. The Sourdough bread is over done and very dry. I think bread in Supermarket is better done. It was baked Too much. Very dry & hard and too salty.I tried the cheese sticks as well. But i prefer to have my cheese bretzels from 7-Eleven. They are much tastier done. And why is it soo expensive everything? 50 HKD for a little bit of dry bread and more than 100 HKD for a bread? I know the rent must be very high here since its such a trendy area but the price is not justified.…
CappuccinoIt's a little 1 toned and slightly woody and nutty after adding milk, definitely on the roasty side. Fairly old-school Australian-Italian coffee style especially after flying them into Hong Kong from Melbourne. Think it will fare better with a better Blend and Roasting calculating in the flight time and whatever science is behind coffee? But the Barista here made these pretty well and the milk was smooth! Pity about the base 5 Senses Coffee, which carries a lot more potential in home town down under sigh... .Friend's Cheese and Ham Salad -This looked better than the Menu suggested indeed. Apparently it was pretty good with poached eggs on top - the latter were slightly overcooked. .Apple Tart with Home Made Vanilla Ice Cream & Mint, Salted Caramel Sauce - This was by-far the best product I have had in this establishment. Surface was caramelised well and the apples were cooked until transparent sweet but not dry. Liked the ice cream with real vanilla essence too! Salted Caramel Sauce was a good addition. Apparently has some Cinnamon input but couldn't detect much. …
Initial contact was inadvertent. Went out for a breath of fresh air on a certain weekday a couple weeks ago and stumbled upon Po's Atelier. I heard of it but didn't know it was so close by. It's good to live near sheung wan. Wasn't really hungry at that time but just had to try something. Environment:This is the store front. Usually there is a large heavy automatic metallic door right in the middle of the 3 panes. You press a button and it automatically slides open. There were quite a number of people milling about on my first visit. On my second visit there weren't any, probably because it was somewhere between lunch and afternoon tea. It's surprisingly quiet and serene inside the bakery. Open, airy kitchen opening up to a large, full-length window. It's a very modern bakery and there is very little clutter. Serviceretty non-intrusive, which is much appreciated. I must spend lots of time going back and forth between strong contenders. When it comes to decision-making in terms of food I am severely handicapped. It is not good. Keeps people waiting hm.Food:Grilled cheese stick $25I somehow thought it would resemble the two types of cheesy bread, which I like. One type you can find at bakeries with a bit of grilled cheese on top and a really soft body. The other type is grissini topped with melted/grilled cheese. As it turned out, this grilled cheese stick was nothing like what I'd expected. Quite a let down actually. It was too tough, like a jerky, which almost gave me a headache. I had to painfully discard half of the stick because it wasn't worth more headache. Also, it was tooo salty. The grilling intensified the savoury cheesy flavours significantly. If this crisp crust appeared on the edges of pizzas or onion soup, it would be delicious. But an entire stick of bread coated in grilled cheese is a bit too much. Plus the bag in which the halved sticks were placed became soaked in oil shortly after. Brioche with hazelnut cream, baked cream/custard topped with sugar-roasted hazelnuts...I have forgotten its name $32This was shared with a friend on another occasion. It was....too cloyingly sweet. The hazelnut cream was smooth and substantial. Tasted pretty alright, but the brioche was quite sweet too and with the generous sprinkling of sugar-roasted hazelnuts....it was a bit too much for me. Oh and I forgot to mention the baked custard topping which, was well done....and also sweet. All in all, too sweet. And oily. Gotta mention the oil absorbed by the paper bag. another interestingly shaped item I didn't buy:Yunnan ham bread, interestingly-shaped. Rationale..?Conclusion:I have heard good things about the chocolate croissant and the other loaves (something to do with fig/fruit/dates). Will see if I can pop down for tea or something after this stressful period. I think this bakery has much potential, and quality ingredients - looking forward to new and improved products! …
In One Simple Sentence:Very modern Bakery, good bread, small selection, eatery still in launch phase, expensiveInsider Tip:Come early (before 12) to get one of the "Scones of the Day" before they sell out******************************Visiting Details:Coffee, 2 people, 70HK$Drinks: 3/5Service: 3/5Cuisine: Western BakeryOutside Seating: YesServing Tab Water: YesReservation: NoWait to get seated: NoWhat we really liked:The outdoor seating and the general interior design or the bakeryAnd what not:No menus, Cappuccino too much foam******************************Overall Ex/Interior/Concepto's Atelier is another artisan Bakery that found is hidden away at theupper area of Sheung Wan. Most easy access is from the midlevels, or Sheung Wan MRT station -> Walk past Man Mau Temple and up ladder street till you hit Po Hing Fong street. It is located in a former coffin shop which might have given the new owners a good deal as locals would definately be reluctant (bad spirits). At the front you have the over the counter bakery, although we found the customer area extremely small, it gets unconformable with more than 3 people inside. In the back you have a very nice outdoor terrace and approx 7 tables (for 2 people) in the open concept area. The design is modern, artsy and we like the big windows of the front shop which give you a good view on the bakeries machinery and work.Drinks:Cappuchino:Very average. I am a huge coffee drinker and I hate it when my cappuccino is half cup foam and half cup actual drink. For me a cappuccino should have a smooth light layer of micro milk foam and the rest should be a perfect blend of espresso and hot milk, improvement possible.Dirty:A shot of espresso poured in cold milk, interesting concept. The taste was good, the espresso flavour ok.Tab Water:Average Tab Water, what we always recommend to restaurant owners, is to spice up your "free water", yes, it's free, and wont make you a dime, but it's one thing people will remember. So whenever we come over a new place, who serve's tab water, infused with strawberries or mint, lime, cucumber, it leaves a very positive side note and often might even overpower a certain bad flavour of the other drinks or mains. (especially because it's free!)Food/Bakery:We didn't get to try the Scone of the day as it was sold out at 12 noon already. The other pieces looked nice, but definitely expensive. We will come back and try a piece of bread loaf, being German, this is our speciality, so let's hope for some crusty crunchy surprise here (to be updated)Other Remarks:The owner is a chatty nice guy and definitely trying to serve every customer in a nice and personal fashion, surely they have to establish their customer base now, and it's to be seen how much time they can spend with the one on one time in the future. One big minus were the... missing menus... Yes, we don't understand why you wouldn't (and if it's even just a simple printout) create a bunch of menus, at least for the sit ins and tables. There was one menu lying on the counter, and for some reason no one was allowed to move it more than 50 cm away from the counter. Yes, if your friends were seated already and you wanted to quickly show them what to order(yes, you need a menu to decide what to order), no go.We are sure this will improve going forward, so best luck to this place!…
