We booked for at table at 8pm and it wasn't ready when we got there at the allocated time. The front desk service simply said "wait". No 'please' or she could have spoken more politely to me in Cantonese as I had already shown that I can speak a conversational amount. We usually go to more affordable hotpot places but MTR Malls had a coupon where we could redeem 20% off our bill. What we or the staff didn't know was that on the English version of the MTR app, the coupon is missing a clause that requires 24 hours notice in advance if we wish to use the coupon, which just a way to make vendors void the coupon, by the way. We only found out upon asking for the bill, and we were met with no compromise. The manager said he would come back to us and made us wait an extra half an hour, doing menial duties that could have been handled by his team because we were getting the bill when the restaurant was nearly empty. His response later on was "The office will change the clause but we can't give you the redemption". I work in F&B and know that there are 0 managers in Hong Kong who are unauthorised to give discounts. How else for example, would a VIP get their usual complimentary items even if they were a walk-in guest? We pay a 10% service charge for this kind of service on top of a statement that breaches Hong Kong contract law. We tried their tea on a separate occasion and it was awful as well. Very bitter. Also, I know that hotpot is a generally oily meal, but the oil on our sichuan soup base was the thickest that I had ever seen. Thicker than packeted hotpot mix. With our moods soured a second time we will not come back.
