Last night my family and I visited the Skycity Marriott to enjoy their Oktoberfest buffet at their Skycity Bistro. With their complementary shuttle that leaves from the Tung Chung MTR station, the Skycity Marriott is a convenient escape from the usual dining options available in Tung Chung.
Having spent the better part of my senior year as an exchange student in Germany, I am always on the look out for a good German restaurant where I can satisfy my cravings for some of the foods I learned to love while living there. The fare offered by the Skycity Bistro is a good find.
Along with the usual buffet finds such as the ever popular fresh seafood, sushi, curries and a chocolate fountain they are currently offering authentic German dishes such as pork knuckles, veal schnitzel, a variety of German sausages, pretzels and many exciting and delicious German desserts including apple strudel and black forest cherry cake.
I found the baked fish in horseradish sauce to be surprisingly delicious and the curries warranted a second trip. My children were over-joyed to see the chocolate fountain. The wheat beer with Cola Jelly dessert really brought me back to my days in Germany where I first tried the 50/50 combination of cola and beer. It was a pleasant and exciting reminder of my time in Germany.
The restaurant itself is well decorated, clean and relaxing. Even when it became busy it never seemed overcrowded or noisy and offered a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.
The service was excellent! The servers were attentive, friendly and efficient. One server in particular, named Edward, went above and beyond and when he saw that our little ones, who had been indulging on the chocolate fountain, we're becoming covered in chocolate and that the moistened towelettes provided just were not doing the job, brought us a moistened wash cloth so I could clean their chocolate covered fingers and mouths. It was a fine example of the exceptional service we received.
The Oktoberfest buffet is running now until November 4th. Prices are Monday-Thursday adults HK$418 and children HK$238. Friday-Sunday and public holidays adults HK$448 and children HK$ 268. The beer buffet at an extra $78 is an excellent deal and offers several German and other beers to choose from.
