My family and I discovered this restaurant a few years ago and since then it’s become one of our favourite places for large dinners. On the table were the usual peanuts and soy sauce, but this soy sauce is spicy & sweet so it’s a bit different. Yummy!
We started with one of their specials – 蜆芥鯪魚球 (Deep Fried Dace Fishballs with Fermented Clam Sauce)
-It came very very freshly fried so be careful with you bite into it!-The dace fish paste is rolled into pieces of rice vermicelli and then deep fried, so the outside is really really crispy.
-The fish paste isn’t overly salty, and I’m not sure but I think there are pieces of green onion and water chestnuts inside so to keep it fresh-tasting?
-The best part was the dipping sauce It’s fermented clams (sounds disgusting I know) and tastes salty with a little hit of mustardy taste. Love it!
Next was 瓦撐西芹蝦醬焗魚卜 (Claypot Stir-fried Celery & Fish Vesicles in Shrimp Paste)
-OK I don’t really know what fish vesicles are LOL but that’s the closest translation I could find. My mom said that it’s a fish organ located near the heart. It’s white and crunchy, and I heard that it’s nutritious? It is probably tasteless on its own so it went well with the shrimp paste-I’ve always thought that shrimp paste goes well with crunchy vegetables so celery was the perfect choice here
This is 煎焗大魚嘴 (Pan Fried Fish Heads) which requires pre-ordering
-This is a very simple dish which is basically pan fried fish heads with a lot of green onion, ginger, garlic & Chinese celery.-They’ve done it quite well with the fish heads fried perfectly crispy and has a peppery taste
-I love eating the vegetable pieces too – very flavourful to munch on. Also there were many pieces of burnt garlic which I love <3
Stir-fried Gailan 炒芥蘭
-Perfectly crispy and crunchy which also implies they probably used a lot of oil LOL-I love how they also add pieces of salted fish in it and makes the entire dish very fragrant. ----Another awesome beer companion!
This is one of their famous dishes - 污糟雞 (literally “dirty chicken”)
-I’ve never had this dish before, so when they unwrapped the tin foil I was surprised to find that the chicken wasn’t ‘dirty’ at all! -The chicken is steamed, so it’s slightly healthier compared to the other dishes found here
-The meat is very very tender and fragrant, with a heavy sesame oil taste
-I also love how they add many pieces of vegetables in it to soak up the sauce!
I wasn’t expecting dessert, but apparently the steamed milk here is very famous as well. We actually had to ask the waiter to save a few bowls for us when we placed our orders
This is one of the best steamed milk puddings I’ve had! It’s slightly watery but tastes very very milky. It’s also not too sweet. Perfect way to end a meal!I highly recommend this place, especially if you’re looking for place for large family gatherings and serves good beer food =) A little bit on the pricier side though, totalled to $980 for 4 of us including beer.
