Park Central seems to have finished it's renovations and a number of new restaurants have popped up. One of them we decided to try is 大茶飯 (English name: Tai Cha Fan). A restaurant serving Taiwanese eats at a reasonable price. The restaurant had a nice blue and white design. I noted they had places to recharge your phone.Menu is in English and Chinese. We decided to order a few items to share.
Started with drinks while waiting for our food. Boyfriend had the winter melon tea with lemon ($20). He said it was fine but could have been more sweet.
I had the passion fruit red tea ($25). Usually when I order this, it's always way too sweet. But here, it wasn't sweet at all. I guess a good thing as I could at least taste the tea.
I wanted some marinaded braised items so we ordered stewed platter ($62). It was more than I expected. There were chicken wings, tripe, pig intestine and pigs ear. Some of them were marinaded so long, it was super salty. Otherwise, most of them were fairly good and just enough flavor. The pigs ears were so soft. I think I've always had them with a bit of crunch but not here. There was also some daikon but it appeared they weren't soaked into the marinade to soak everything up.
Crispy chicken fillet with rice ($58) was a pretty delicious. The chicken was nicely fried with a crunchy coating and the meat was moist. Nicely seasoned as well. There was also some minced pork meat that was the right amount of savory. I quite liked this dish. It was filling with decent food items.
Chinese soup dumplings ($38) was pretty good, too. The dumpling skin was bit thick but the filling was packed with a nice ratio of pork meat to chives.
Deep fried oysters ($88) was the ending to our meal. The small oysters were fresh and cooked just right. The coating was crispy and well seasoned. It came with a chili dipping sauce but it really wasn't needed as it was well seasoned.
Fairly decent Taiwanese dishes. The rice bowl was the best and I would come back for that. Prices not expensive as well for a filling meal.
