Nestled in the bustling Lai Chi Kok neighborhood, Pause It continues to be a reliable retreat for those seeking a moment of calm amidst Hong Kong’s frenetic pace. On my fourth or fifth visit, the café once again delivered a delightful experience that balances quality food, inviting ambiance, and warm service—without the sting of a service charge.

This time, I savored two dishes: the stuffed chicken rolls with honey roasted potatoes and the fartelle with slow-cooked minced meat. The chicken rolls were a standout, tender and juicy with a flavorful stuffing that paired beautifully with the sweet, caramelized honey-roasted potatoes. The dish struck a perfect balance of savory and sweet, with portions that left me satisfied but not overly full. The fartelle, a lesser-seen pasta shape, was equally impressive. The slow-cooked minced meat sauce clung to each curve of the pasta, delivering rich, hearty flavors that felt both comforting and refined. Both dishes showcased the kitchen’s knack for crafting well-executed, unpretentious meals.

The drinks were no less impressive. My orange mocha was a fragrant delight, blending the zesty brightness of orange with the deep warmth of mocha—a refreshing twist on a classic. The latte, adorned with intricate latte art, was as pleasing to the eye as it was to the palate, with a smooth, robust coffee profile. Each sip carried the inviting aroma of freshly brewed beans, elevating the experience.

Pause It’s minimalist aesthetic remains a draw. The simple, uncluttered space promotes a sense of calm, enhanced by stylish music choices like Khalil Fong’s soulful 沒啥好說, which set a relaxed yet sophisticated tone. The staff, as always, were polite and attentive, contributing to the café’s welcoming vibe.

For those seeking a place to unwind after a hectic workday, Pause It is a gem. With consistently tasty food, artful drinks, and a serene environment, it’s a spot that never fails to impress. Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular, this Lai Chi Kok café is worth hitting pause for.
