A modest glass of red wine each day may well be the secret to longevity. With that in mind, I set out to procure a bottle for quiet dinners at home. Instead, I stumbled upon a refined little establishment tucked along a quiet lane—where wine is not merely served, but thoughtfully paired with food.I ordered three oysters, a glass of red, and a small selection of nibbles. The proprieto was gracious and attentive, enquiring after my preferences before recommending a wine that suited both palate and mood. Local residents paused mid-walk for a quick sip. It was all rather civilised.The fare was exceptional. Alongside the oysters came a savoury cheese and ham frittata, slices of herb-cured beef sausage, rustic wholegrain bread, a generous wedge of firm aged cheese, and a soft truffle-infused cheese with a rich, creamy finish. The 2022 Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil from Domaine Y.
