Optimist hold a sherry pairing dinner every month. Sherry pairing is not that common as it is mostly a dessert wine so I was intrigued by the menu.Despite the star should be the ham, the tomato spreading on their bread actually caught my atteniont even more. The Sherry Cobbler was off to a nice start.A more citrus/dry sherry was served next to match the appetizers that have a higher fat content. The truffle croquettes were definitely amazing with a rich filling yet the aroma was not overbearing.

The next sherry was my favorite as I felt it was the most balanced of them all. More bread was served for our snapper dish and the sauce was so rich you have to refrain yourself from asking for more bread.

The next sherry was more bold in flavors and matched the steak/pork more. However, I admit that the bitterness from the tannin of red wine would still make it a better pairing. Both proteins were generouslly portioned and seasoned well.

The last sherry, as warned by our server, should not be served to those with Diabetes and I have to say it was really too sweet that it kind of overwheled the desserts a bit. I felt if they chose some fruity/tarty desserts, this may create a contrast of flavors but the pairing of this was a bit mismatched.

Having said that, for around $580, this dinner was very fulfilling even more me and getting to try 5 glasses of generoully portioned sherry was a definite bargain.
