I have walked past Holy Gaw on numerous occasions and today I decided to give it a try. I knew that it was a Filipino based restaurant but did not really know the type of food that was served. The menu has a selection of pastas, meat based dishes and sides. The menu has a selection of pastas, meat based dishes and sides. We ordered the Rose Prawn which is rigatoni in a creamy tomato sauce with 3 big prawns, yin yang chicken which is chicken cooked two ways, one side fried and the other baked, a side of cauliflower rice, avocado ice cream sandwich and mulled wine to get into the Xmas spirit.
The first to arrive was the mulled wine, this had a good level of fruity and spiciness and was brewed well.
Then came the Rose Prawn pasta, the pasta was cooked to a soft but not mushy consistency, the creamy tomato sauce with a hint of spiciness and the large tiger prawns were marinated and cooked well. The overall dish was addictive, the creamy and slightly hot tomato sauce was very good and was complemented well with the tasty tiger prawns. I am not sure what ingredient infused in this dish was Filipino but it was good.
The next dish that came along was the yin yang chicken, from the description on the menu you cannot really tell what this is so we asked the staff for a more detailed description, yin and yang for this dish was chicken cooked two ways which was fried and baked. The fried chicken had good flavouring but could have been a little more crispy, for the roast chicken this was covered in savoury sauce which I could not make out what it was, yes I should have asked the staff. This was well cooked with strong flavours and went really well with the cauliflower rice.
For dessert we ordered the avocado ice cream sandwich, I don't think I have ever had avocado flavoured ice cream before so I was looking forward to trying this.m dessert. The flavour of the ice cream was good, I could taste the natural flavours of the avocado, the consistency was soft and creamy but was a little icy which I did not like, despite this the ice cream went well with the slight sweetened sandwich and overall did not disappoint.
Overall a satisfied I left Holy Gaw a satisfied customer and needless to say I will be back to try other interesting items on the menu.
