However, the service was horrendous. I arrived by myself and waited patiently as the hostess was on the phone. When she was finished, there was no apology for me waiting while she was busy and not even a smile or greeting. I let it slide as she showed me promptly to a table.
Then she went away. And didn't come back. I had no menu. An empty glass with no water. At first I thought she would be back in a bit with the menu but then I noticed she went off to the corner of the bar and chatted with the wait staff. After sitting there for almost 5 minutes where she continued to chat away with more wait staff and still with no menu and no water, I finally waved for attention. After a while, someone came over and I asked for a menu and water. Without an apology for not providing me this basic dining necessity, I was presented with the lunch menu.
Menu is in English and Chinese. During lunch time, they offer a lunch set which includes a soup or salad, main and drink. Dessert is another added price.
I decided on the soup of the day which was cream of corn. It was pretty delicious. A sweet creamy soup with a toasty piece of bread for dipping. I love cream of corn soup and it was pretty rare for the daily soup to be this. It's usually cream of mushroom.
For my main I chose the moules Hoegaardens ($148). You get a choice of fries or rice. However, when I went to order, the waitress took off before I added I wanted fries. Nor did she bother to ask me. I had to wave her down again to ask for fries. She just looked at me, without an apology that she just took off without asking or even just to say I'll make a note of it. Nothing. Seriously, the service here? None.
ANYWAYS ... you get quite a lot of mussels. 250 grams in fact. That's a good serving size. You can still taste the beer they used to cook it. The sauce was a rich creamy white sauce. There were a lot of sliced carrots and onions that just soaked up all the cream.
It came with some fries. There weren't a lot but enough for me. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They were also perfectly seasoned. Good fries and great for soaking up some of the creamy sauce if you don't want mayo.
Food was pretty good. Nicely flavored and good portions. Food also came out extremely fast. I think I waited only 10 minutes and everything had arrived. Restaurant had a gorgeous design. It's too bad the service was so horrible. Starting with the hostess to the waitress. Neither of them seemed to care nor offer any apologies for things forgotten. I paid $165 for lunch and I had the same type of service if I ate at a cha chan teng that costs half the price. I have no idea if it's due to it being new but someone needs to brief the staff on service. I'll be back as the food is very good. But if I come back, I hope service will have improved or it was a one off thing. If it's not ... I wouldn't be keen to return. And that's why I'm placing an OK for the food.
