Obviously the profit margin of running a café is higher than local low-end Chinese restaurants, thus Ming Kei Seafood Restaurant (明記海鮮酒家) was inevitably replaced by Coffee Academics, the aggressively expanding Habitu Group.
Seeing the success of the flagship store in Causeway Bay, this one on Johnston Road became another hot spot for coffee or pastry. As compared to other Café in the area such as Coco Espresso, Rabbithole, Mansons Lot, etc., Coffee Academics still maintains its advantage with more seating and longer operating hours.a) Chicken Salad (lunch set) – 7.5/10
In between green pea mint soup and chicken salad, I opted for the latter. With minimal seasoning and dressing, the freshness of the greens and orange wedges still made it a pleasant dish. The chicken breast was tough due to overcooked. Interesting that when I asked a wait staff about the dressing used, he told me “Caesar” but I didn’t tasted any sourness in the sauce.b) Artichoke and Pesto Pizza (lunch set) – 8.5/10
As I set no expectation on the food after having the salad, I was pretty surprised and happy to see the foot-diameter pizza delivered on my table. Not only cheered up by its size, the generous spread of artichoke, mixed mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, Parmesan cheese on top of pesto, buffalo cheese and a thin crust already met the qualities a good pizza should have. Don’t be scared by the size, it’s just perfect for me with an average appetite. Thumbs up!!c) Selected Black Tea (lunch set) – 7/10
A lesson to learn of not having coffee in a coffee specific café. This Ceylon tea was bland.08.2013
