On March 11, shortly after Noon, a group of HKIS teenagers (14 and 15 year olds) one of which was my son, went for lunch to Beef and Liberty in Stanley Plaza. The burgers were ordered but when served one of the boys found a worm crawling inside the lettuce (the boys have a video of this). The restaurant did the right thing and didn't charge for the one meal. Out of care and concern, they alerted another customer of this serious health and hygiene issue. The group of boys were asked to leave immediately and did but once outside the restaurant one of the
waiters (with a shaved head and of 5'6 to 5'8 feet tall) chased the group in
the Plaza, forcefully shoving aside two of the boys and then going on to pull the
third boy's backpack.
The waiter aggressively pointed his finger at them and verbally assaulted and scolded the
boys for simply alerting another customer that a worm was found in the meal.
The group felt the customers had a right to know as there maybe worms were in
their meals. The customer talked to was with a small child and the boys
were genuinely concerned for others' safety-especially that of a child.
This is simply unacceptable behaviour of a waiter threatening young customers after serving
them unsafe food (presumably done outside to avoid scaring the other customers
too).
As one of the boy's fathers, I cannot explain enough how stressful and frightening this was and in
such a safe, family friendly area as Stanley Plaza.
Management reached out to my wife and suggested the events outside the restaurant didn't appear to happen the way we described. We asked what they've seen to suggest this, and have been ignored ever since.
We would simply hope the employee receives the appropriate disciplinary action (instead of being defended), the restaurant improves their
safety and hygiene standards and trains their employees to understand bullying (young) customers isn't okay!
