A day off and we decided to have lunch and explore the Tai Ping Shan area. After a looking about, we decided on this Spanish restaurant as they seemed to have a good number of diners.The restaurant isn't very big. Menu is in English only. They offer a lunch set during lunch time. Set includes an appetizer, main and dessert for around $200. They also offer a lighter version which includes two appetizers and dessert for $158. We decided to order two set and share.
They started us off with bread that was toasted very well, generously smothered in olive oil and seasoned with salt.
For the appetizer we chose the Croquettes of the Day with Mixed Green Salad. The croquettes were lovely. Very cripsy with soft melt in your mouth centers. They wer also piping hot! The salad was lightly drizzled with a simple dressing.
The other appetizer was Baby Octopus Stew in Confit Onions. It was dressed with some basil oil. Nicely seasoned. The octopus was soft and tender.
For the main we had the Black Ink Paella with Fresh Squid Green Asparagus and Allioli Sauce ($198). This was definitely interesting. The rice was al dente. Topped with fresh squid that gave the whole dish a slight seafood flavour.
The other main was the Fresh Mussels in Marinara Sauce ($188). A fairly generous portion, the mussels were fresh and savory. The marinara sauce was rich and tomatoey.
The first dessert was the Daily Ice Cream which was vanilla. The scoop was laid on a bed of crumbled biscuits.
The other dessert was a Catalan Cream. Tapping my spoon onto the top, I heard a satisfying crunch. The dessert was just set so it was wobbly yet very creamy.
A fairly good price for lunch with food that was well presented and tasted good. Portions weren't stingy. No wonder there was quite a number of diners in this rather more quiet area of town.
