VeggieSF除左食物出色外,環境氣氛都相當唔錯。設計主題為50's 美國,SF即係San Francisco,步入餐廳,一定會感受到果種氣氛,設計同擺設都好有心思。同女朋友去,一人叫左一個main,分別係"I am Fabulous" 同 “Union Square"兩款食物都唔錯,雖然係素食,但味道都好豐富。甜品方面,店員介紹左chocolate cake,朱古力味好濃。食物同氣氛都令人滿意,服務都好親切,值得再去。

While the food was quite delicious, the downside was that the seating area was cramped, and the entire restaurant was staffed by only two or three waiters. The service was reasonably polite, but extremely rushed (e.g. we were asked to order immediately upon being seated).

(1) The Broad Beans and Carrot Soup, which came with the set lunch, tasted quite bland. It had a good texture thanks to the chunky vegetable bits, but was too watery.

(2) This Crispy Nuggets ($38) is a side dish and we loved it! It was crispy on the outside like normal chicken nuggets, and its texture was really chewy, which made it even better than chicken nuggets which are simply soft and pliable. Not to mention that they were full of “meaty” flavours as well!

(3) This Oakland Breeze ($98) is Vietnamese Style mixed Vermicelli with Fried Tofu & Skewers. The seasoning was sharp and definite, just like what you would get in Vietnamese restaurants, and the tofu and skewers were crunchy and nicely smothered in an appetising sweet and sour sauce. The whole dish was very refreshing and it was one of the lighter options at VeggieSF.

(4) This rice is called Sashimi 101 ($108) and it comprised of Rainbow Vegetable, Kelp Konjac, and Tempura served with Organic Sushi Rice. The veggie tempura was delicious and the other vegetables had been nicely grilled, giving them a gorgeous crunch. The sauce for this rice was thick and creamy, and there was an appealing hint of coconut milk.

(5) I am Fabulous ($108) is a signature dish, and you could choose from a selection of patties for your Fabulous Burger. It was served with Potato Pumpkin Wedges and a Mixed Salad on the side. We liked the large, rustic potato pumpkin wedges, and the patty we picked was the Crispy Black Pepper Soy Patty, which was chewy and had a good thickness.

(6) This Fuselli ($108) was dressed in a vibrant and refreshing pesto and tomato sauce. The fuselli was reasonably al dente, and the cashew nuts, olives and baby corn gave this dish a combination of interesting flavours and textures. Similar to the Vietnamese vermicelli above, this Fuselli was a light option which would be less likely to give you a food coma after lunch!

(7) This Union Square ($108), an Organic Lasagne with cheese, assorted veggies and pesto, was piping hot when it was served, and was satisfyingly flavourful. It was topped with generous servings of mozzarella and ricotta cheese, and the assortment of eggplant, baby corn, peppers, and chick peas gave it a mélange of fresh flavours. However, I must point out that it was incredibly oily. Having picked a lasagna, I certainly did not expect a light dish, but there were spoonfuls of oil in it, coming both from the cheese and the pesto sauce…

(8) Having finished the main courses, we ordered a Chocolate truffle cake ($38), and it was more fluffy and less heavy than the normal chocolate cakes, in a good way! Light, smooth and not too sweet, it was a soothing dessert to end our meal.

The set lunch also comes with a beverage, and I ordered the FairTrade Organic Soy Coffee. Not everyone would like soy coffee, as it is much more bland and watery than your usual cup of latte, but I liked it, and if anything, I would order it just to support FairTrade!

While most items on the menu were delectable, I’m afraid this veggie meal was definitely not healthy, with most foods either deep fried or cooked with lavish amounts of cream or cheese. I would not recommend VeggieSF if you are looking for a detox meal - this is more of a place for vegetarian junk food!

太太生日月的event仍未完結,在一個星期五的晚上,一年一度同成班齋妹妹大吃的日子又到了。上次食印度菜辣到大家怕怕,今次我們翻兜一間幾年前來過的好地方,位於中環的舊金山素食。幾年來,裝修同擺設都沒有太大的變化,依然是把美國的舊物件,舊海報,舊路牌來營造一個 "美國" Dining 既環境。有一名曾在美國西岸留學的表妹說,這兒只是一個5、60年代的美國,非常之正確,這兒的裝修就是以當年美國的物件來做主題。 環境沒有變化,不過餐牌上的食品就有少少變化的。不過,三年前喝的甘荀薏米湯,三年後的今日,也是甘荀薏米湯。味道依然是清新的,因為沒有奶類產品的添加,飲起來沒有濃香的味道,食慣葷肉的人未必會習慣,店主把薏米煲埋入湯,夏天求涼快,是非常之好的。 他們的Stinky Truggle, 黑松露什菌燴有機意粉。這organic pasta是螺絲粉。在沒有芝士忌廉的襯托下,味道自然地淡了少少,幸有橄欖同黑松露把應有的濃味散發出來,再加上蕃茄粉,是大自然的味道。

他們的Stinky Truggle, 黑松露什菌燴有機意粉。這organic pasta是螺絲粉。在沒有芝士忌廉的襯托下,味道自然地淡了少少,幸有橄欖同黑松露把應有的濃味散發出來,再加上蕃茄粉,是大自然的味道。

I am Fabulous,是他們的招牌Burger,我們點選的是紅菜頭醬漢堡,伴碟的是南瓜角、薯角同沙律。紅菜頭是甜味的,所以漢堡的味道也是偏向甜美,再加上伴碟的南瓜,整個概念是姒甜為主題。紅菜頭打成容,想不到質感會同豆類是品一樣的軟綿綿,又甜又綿,又香口。

這兒的食物不是全是無蛋奶的,有的就一定會標明,同樣,有蔥蒜的食物也同樣會註明這是含五辛之物。列明列清楚,不會怕誤會,因為執著的素食者,實在是非常之執著的。這一個Union Square,焗香草醬芝士雜菜(茄子)有機千層麵。雖然這是含奶的素食,但店方也準備了無奶的版本,要照顧Vegan人士。而我們當然要一個有芝士的版本啦,因為焗出來的Lasagna一定會是非常香,結果不負我們所望,味道香口,有茄子,菠菜等做餡料,菜味濃郁,香味俱全。不過因為有芝士的關係,幾漏下。

咖啡,Cuppacinno,是一個沒有奶的Cuppacinno。當中打出來的泡泡就是用豆奶打出來的。之前沒有想過,豆奶也能打出cuppacinno的泡泡來。不過豆奶的味明顯沒全脂奶的豐厚,混入咖啡,味道特別。

味道感覺不一樣,現在的menu著重了西式的餐飲,更加西化更加好食,也更加美國。兩、三年沒來,環境沒有變化,但令我們感覺到變化的是食物的質素,我們的感覺上,是變好了。

朋友食素所以就揀咗呢間嘢試吓,呢度嘅裝條真係好靚,好有懷舊氣息,齋欣賞裝修都值回票價。不過講返食物,菜式選擇唔多,大概十款。我揀咗個有柚子有機螺絲粉。份量都適中嘅,有少少菜喺面,柚子原來只係紅西柚切到細細粒,醬汁同啲西柚都偏酸,螺絲粉太硬太生,好似有少少煮唔熟咁…而且螺絲粉本身係冇味嘅。總括嚟講,碟嘢只係酸同硬,確實麻麻…題外話:呢度有最低消費,每人一定要叫個main course, 所以唔啱細食or想share食嘅朋友。

Space is fun and kitschy.Menu looks all right, and we'd heard good things but can't actually review the food because we never managed to eat there.First time, walked in with 3 friends.It wasn't full yet, but they said all the table were reserved (dinner).Second time, went with one friend, again they were full - visibly so (dinner).Third time, we arrived early for lunch - the place was nearly empty. They apologized but it just seemed ridiculous.

That's just bad service and poor judgement about customer relations.

The atmosphere is simply wonderful. The walls are covered with seemingly endless varieties of authentic and tongue-in-cheek 50s-era kitsch to explore (including Anne Taintor, or Anne-Taintor-esque, signage like you see on the right above). I probably could have spent another hour or two just combing through it all, but that's what repeat visits are for. And, believe me, there will be many repeat visits. I feel a desire to go back right now, actually, but let's make sure to talk about the food before I dash out the door...

Here we have a fresh fruit soy shake that is thick, rich, and dairy-free (which doesn't necessarily matter to me, but I tend to prefer it, so I was very pleased to have the option). I have no idea what fruit was included (I'd at least guess banana), but I know it was mighty tasty and satisfying without being too sweet or too filling. Very much recommended.

The main course: an organic beet burger. Such a staggeringly creative idea (certainly something I'd never seen before) and I sat in awe of its deliciousness. The chef somehow minced beets to formed a stable patty, covered it with cheese (optional), cucumber, tomato, and sprouts, then surrounded it with a toasted bun. They have a few other burger choices (black bean, grilled portobello and pineapple), but I just can't imagine any of them topping this: every component was beautiful and the flavor combination was perfect. Before we move on, I must give service to the included sides because each absolutely held its own. The salad had a nice variety of vegetables and just the right amount of tangy house dressing (not overwhelming; a detail I really appreciate since I prefer to enjoy the flavor of the veggies and often don't even use dressing). And the herb roasted wedges! The potatoes were lovely, to be sure, but the pumpkin was the real star. I'd suggest adding one more slice of pumpkin to the plate because one was most certainly not enough!

A last minute addition: the egg-free chocolate truffle cake. Woo boy. This was rather like having a slice of firm-but-fluffy mousse, not a flour-based risen cake. It was so smooth, rich, and creamy that my descriptions can't do it justice. You'll have to go experience it for yourself.

That all sounds great, right? Well I haven't even gotten to the best part: the family of amazingly friendly staff who work there. They really went out of their way to make me feel welcome. I got there early and, at first, I was the only person being served (I was alone). The owner, who was hanging out at a nearby table, noticed and started a very entertaining conversation with me that led to me being introduced to the whole staff. They made me feel like a king and I'd never even been there before. Let me take this opportunity to send a giant thank you to the whole VeggieSF team for making my dinner tonight so wonderful. I'm coming back and I'm bringing friends.

Were there for dinner yesterday.We ordered rice and burger,the burger is quite nice but the rice is very dry with bit of source only. We requested for additional source and the staff said there is $10 sub-charge. Not a very pleasant dinner experience.

今年開始會定期吃素, 主要是聽外婆說吃素對自己運程比較好, 這是宗教說法, 其次也為健康跟環保. 男友很好, 也說要陪我參與一份本來是想去附近吃沙拉, 但沙拉店裝修沒有開放座位, 那就來了這間裝潢很有美國風的餐廳他們的菜單會註明那個是全素, 那個是蛋奶素, 客人可以依照自己的飲食規則來選mozzarella cheese sticks就近一般在外面吃到的芝士條差不多, 上桌的時候還是很熱就是最重要的啦蘸個茄汁就很好吃椰菜花湯因為點了兩個主菜, 我們選了一份餐湯跟一份甜品這個湯蠻好喝的, 椰菜花打得夠幼細, 喝吃來有椰菜花的甜味roasted pumpkin and potato wedges炸南瓜跟薯角, 上桌的時候又時在冒煙的, 每款各三件他們幾乎是蘸了很少粉去炸, 我很愛吃南瓜, 外層很脆裡面的肉很軟甜呢薯角也很好吃, 都切很厚, 不錯的餐前小吃Oakland breeze 越式撈檬伴炸豆腐及串燒這個撈檬材料很豐富呢, 有素串燒, 炸豆腐, 青瓜絲甘筍絲每款都做得很好, 加上甜酸汁伴撈檬一點都不寡, 很豐富的味道Union Square 焗芝士雜菜素粒粒有機千層麵這個千層麵真的好好

內有大菇,蕃茄,菠蘿,大菇加點牛油一向是人間美味,差不到那去,蕃茄是肉茄,菠蘿也多汁,是不難吃的漢堡

坐得不舒服,又只收現金,冇下次

Tables are jam packed next to each other and it is so easy to unintentionally eavesdrop a conversation at the next table. The wooden chairs are pretty small, and so it the table. The restaurant is dim and a candle in the middle of the table provides lighting.

So the first thing you'll notice when you read the menu is how creatively they named their dinner sets. I'm 'In the mood for love when I order my portobello burger. Vietnamese vermicelli with fried tofu and skewers is Love Actually. If your friend orders creamy soy tomato sauce organic pasta with cheese and assorted veggies they are saying 'Be Mine' (whether it's directed towards the delightful dish or to you....
) The sets are mostly around $110.

This is a very thick burger, but be rest assured it isn't demanding on your calorie quota. Coz it's all thick-sliced pineapple, tomato and one regular-sized portobello mushroom. I always dissect my burgers so this method was clearly suitable for this particular operation. It is nappied in a piece of butter paper to prevent collapse. There are exactly three chips on the side, and a green salad with a special vinagrette

Aerial view: look at the three fat chips. very precious and delicious. But honestly its' a good health option coz nobody really needs too many chips. Healthier alternatives they were - sweet potato, potato and maybe pumpkin? Nicely crisped and well-seasoned. The portobello patty was juicy, chewy and rather meaty. The pineapple was grilled and slightly caramelized. The large disc of tomato was sweet. The buns were grilled too, with a thin layer of mayo (home made probably) on each bun. The buns were sufficiently thick and had a crisp edge and a soft, chewy center - just how I like burger buns to be like in terms of texture!
Accompanying the salad was a red wine vinagrette which was very intense and concentrated. Very sweet, not too tart, but I think there wasn't enough olive oil. Not very silky and it kind of hurt the palate - it should act as a binding and lubricating agent for the salad instead. It was special though.

Julienned cucumber, carrot; italian flat-parsley (NOT corriander thank God), chopped cashews and perhaps a trace of peanuts, fried tofu cubes, mock shrimp skewers, and a quarter of lime for squirting. It's a refreshing dinner to have, and quite healthy, and I must say the mock shrimp skewers were delicious. Texture: al dente! hahaa...and it tasted like shrimp too! But it is deep fried I believe.

Conclusion:
For a restaurant featuring an all-vegetarian menu, Veggie SF has done well to satisfy the average omnivore. It cannot satisfy a carnivore though. I would come back again, but only after a few months. Prefer having some meat in my meal.

極喜歡吃素的我,住在中上環,當然不能不試這間西式的食素店,而且她的裝修也的確很用心。和兩位朋友到這間店吃晚飯,當然要訂位,枱不多,而且這店很早收舖。我們點了千層麵,越式撈檬配炸豆腐及串燒和香茅蕃茄蛋配珍珠糙米飯。例湯是甘荀湯,是簡簡單單的甘荀蓉加薏米,極清。朋友的千層麵就是蕃茄和粟米,茄子等蔬菜做餡加上面烤脆芝士,她說幾好。而另一位朋友的香茅蕃茄蛋配珍珠糙米飯就是蕃茄為主的飯,佢話味較淡。我的越式撈檬配炸豆腐及串燒,豆腐炸得脆口,另外的串燒就是素肉做成的,點上酸辣醬也不錯,檬粉無特別但有很多配菜撈食。味淡淡的。坦白講這裹的素食不算特別出色,但就真係食環境,是一個和女性朋友談天的好地方。男仔可能會覺得唔夠飽肚。

前幾天試吃過一家吃素的餐廳,因為本身不是素食者,當天吃素只是應一個想減肥的朋友的要求,才故且去試一下。但是那間店真的給我留下了很深的印象,所以我決定要上來打一下食評!我喜歡那邊的裝潢設計,看得出老闆很喜歡儲跟官舊三潘市有關的東西!此外,我也很欣賞他們的心思──為素食者提供多元化的食物。沒有肉的巨型漢堡包以菠蘿跟大啡菇代替,再配薯仔南瓜,很特別!但。。。其實很老實的說,這間餐廳不太合我口味,主要是因為我比較喜歡吃較濃味的食物!那個漢堡包確實很多汁,但始終不及有肉的漢堡,而且餐前的南瓜湯吃到南瓜肉,感覺也很健康,但就是不夠味道。最後叫了一杯桃茶,那根本不是桃的味道,有點失望!整體而言,這家餐廳感覺不錯,只是不太合我口味而已。

八月二十六日 (星期五)在一個試食會上認識到親切的VICA和JANICE之後還有keep contact,談起來原來大家都在附近工作於是相約吃lunch選定了VICA的主場-Veggie SF-來自肥人眾多的美國西式素菜店我們甚少吃素菜,在途中還擔心吃不飽訂了檯,原來這裡頗受歡迎,當中有不少外籍人士店子裝飾得如置身外地,令人感覺輕鬆先來了是日餐湯,橙色的,以為是南瓜湯一飲之下,原來是甘荀湯淡淡的湯更顯得健康,很大自然的感覺而且還有頗多甘荀碎,飲湯之餘更添口感檬粉入口清涼炸豆腐外脆內嫩,而且毫不油膩,富豆香少油少糖正是健康之道串燒是彷蝦肉,入口彈牙兼且做到蝦味香濃,真的幾可亂真廚功簡直是出神入化薯角雖則用油炸過,但是吃不出絲毫油膩的感覺加入南瓜,味道更有曾次感紅蒽頭醬香濃惹味芝士又不太濃,剛好能帶起整體味覺,又不會過火麵包烘得脆脆,內裡鬆軟配上新鮮的蔬果,很不錯的素漢堡!只要投契,再見便是朋友就是這樣簡單~期待下次
