I have been a long time patron of Fini's. Used to visit the Soho branch, and previously the L Place branch too. Used to have no service charge, and I jokingly told the 2 gentlemen that were owners/managers that it won't fly in HK culture. Then soon they started to charge 10pct on top. Anyhow, for the past 5 years, I visited them in many occasions. Sometimes just myself and wife, sometimes in a large group with clients and colleagues. I thought the taste of their food was great. I don't know if they rebranded or outright sold the business lately, but yesterday (Sep14 2pm) was my first time visiting them since they rebranded. I was with my wife. It was our first time visiting their Wanchai branch.
Much in line with my previous experience, the ambience was good, staff was warm and polite. I ordered the Typhoon Shelter Crab Linguini a la carte, one of my favorites there. My wife ordered the On Top Of Spaghetti. To my surprise, the portions were sooooooooo small. I had to double check with the staff that we didnt order kiddy size or half portion or if they ran out of pasta and bad to use one portion for 2 servings or gave me the set menu serving. I literally finished it in 1min. Then I asked for the check and left to go next door for another bowl of noodles. I suspect that if you have a large appetite, you would need to order 4 portions. No exaggeration!
Sad..... this used to be a great place. But given this kind of serving size, I am quite sure I won't be back. But rest assured, the decor, service and the taste of the food is still as good as before. It is rare that all aspects of the rating is good, but the overall experience is so poor. After all, I came to eat. If I have to spend 300 dollars on lunch for 2 and leave with an empty stomach, then this is a place that deserves a negative rating.
