今日同朋友去了大坑,打算食LUNCH,一邊行一邊邊食,行行吓揾到呢間,看看門口嘅餐廳,$128 可以有三道菜,而地方又闊落,就去試吓前菜我選了蕃茄,朋友選了帶子,好新鮮好特別,很少在其他餐廳見到主菜我選了一個由紅菜頭做的齋漢堡,健康之選朋友選了蟹肉天使麵,她不能吃辣,所以要求了不辣的,好鮮甜甜品好特別,不是一般的雪糕,除了雪糕,仲有二件曲奇,好似雪糕三文治最後來一壼伯爵茶,有時間可以同朋友慢慢飲,飲完仲可以加水

聞說大坑開左間澳洲菜,其實澳洲本身既菜式係跟英國為主,又因為移民國家既關係就集各國之大成,所以都想黎試一試。黎到叫個生蠔先,好鮮味,海水味夠又爽口,正。朋友係好愛Burratta,雖然我一般但都冇所謂啦。佢有honey、stone fruit加埋,食落又幾fresh 既。 我都係鐘意食肥膩野,見到有bone marrow一定要點啦。嘩,燒得好香,bone marrow肥到呢...加埋佢既toaste有mushroom mayo加埋一齊食,好味~再嗌多個Pasta - Chilli Crab Angel Hair,好好食呀,係嫌個汁勁得制,變得好水。多蟹肉又鮮味。選擇係唔算好多,但價錢同食物質素都成正比呢。

Having heard that Elementary is a sister restaurant of Catch in Ktown, my expectations were up.

I ordered a skimmed cappuccino before my friends joined me. The coffee was a big mistake for me. It was watery and lacks aroma. The portion was small. I should have went with juice with looks better.

Admittedly, 2 persons from my party of 3 were late. Shocking was when the waiter came after my table 20 minutes after I sat down (I was sitting in a 4 pax table) knowing that my friends were joining and claimed that there is no “waiting policy” and tried to take away half my table. Hello Mr., that’s major rudeness and it is completely off-putting. I had to fend for my table from a waiter in a restaurant I pay to eat in? I don’t care if other customers are outside and you want to make a quick round for $$$. This is not the way you treat a customer. Remember I had already ordered a coffee and I am not waiting there empty handed. Appalling.

Food was above average in general. Aussie Style brunch is always a good start for a Sunday. The avocado in Avocado toast doesn’t taste ripe enough so it wasn’t as good as the one I had in Catch. Not worth a photo. Presentation was good though. The Sicilian egg was fine, won’t order next time though - boring combination.

Crab Pasta was very tasty. Well balanced flavour and the angle hair was cooked al dente. Portion was good.

The EFT (big toast) was fine. My friends who have the sweet-tooth enjoyed it. I find it a bit too soggy on the inside and the crust wasn’t crispy enough. The combination of fruit and sorbet was good though.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend it for a chill meal. It felt like I was eating in Central on a hump day afternoon.

If you happen to pass by and you want some good brunch food and don’t mind some inconsiderate service, go for it. I would however say Catch carries overall better food but only visit in Winter as it feels like it had no AC.

Living near by, and see queue and full during dinner time everyday. So was curious to try. Finally the taste was very disappointing, poor portion for the price we pay. The only good thing was the service, there is the foreign server very nice and proactive. I’ll not go there again for sure.We ordered one Kebab duck heart. I’ll not go there again for sure.

We ordered one Kebab duck heart. When you call something kebab, we expect it with the bun and salad, turns out to be just 2 brochettes of duck heart asked for 100$... and the salmon pomelo salad, i needed a microscope to find salmon.

And the taste were so so on the 2. Salad was very sour, duck heart full of charcoal smell...


For me, it is not living up to its popularity.

微雨的冬天,來到大坑的ELEMENTARY見兩個中學期認識的老朋友。 是日在ELEMENTARY所吃的,都是熱情的女侍者介紹的心愛食物,感覺也是不錯的。炸椰菜花可以說是香聞十里。未上枱,已經知道是一個不健康的菜,但,又管他呢。一向愛吃炸物的我真是雀躍不已。脆漿並不很厚,緊緊地粘付在椰菜花之上。以蛋黃醬為基底的ranch sauce濃郁香甜,加上香口的烤杏仁,幾乎就要和朋友搶來吃了。 Short Rib HK$288+10%主菜先挑了牛肋肉。不算是難度很高的菜,但也做得腍身入味,頗不俗套。驚訝地見到廚房用了碎切泡菜作解膩之物,也是一個很好的配搭呢。 Pasta of the day HK$? 店子也做意粉,但款式會是天天不同,吃得到甚麼口味就要睇運氣了。是日的忌廉汁扁意粉用了煙豬腩肉起鍋,油脂香氣更盛。扁意粉做得彈牙,也沒有好挑剔的地方。晚市分兩個時段奉客,我們時間不夠所以只可以淺嚐罷了。是日所點的三個菜式都算做得很不俗,雖未可以令人驚艷,但吃下肚中的感覺很舒服,也很有comfort food的感覺。除了食物之外,餐廳的用餐環境及氣氛都很隨性,對我來說也是加分的地方呢。 餐廳暫時

晚市分兩個時段奉客,我們時間不夠所以只可以淺嚐罷了。是日所點的三個菜式都算做得很不俗,雖未可以令人驚艷,但吃下肚中的感覺很舒服,也很有comfort food的感覺。除了食物之外,餐廳的用餐環境及氣氛都很隨性,對我來說也是加分的地方呢。

餐廳暫時還未有酒牌,所以都可以自携酒水免開瓶費,愛好此道的人要留意了。

The worst coffee I've ever had. I paid $90 for 2 cups of take away large soy latte and a large normal latte. Been waiting for 10 mins and got the half cup full coffee on each. And the lady asked if I wanted more milk?! So if I didn't ask and it's a half cup and that's a large size. They got into trash right after first sip! Will never come back again! 😡

Quite naively, I hoped that semi-literate prose would be enough to garner a respectable following for my little blog. Not the case. Increasingly, I’ve been forced to engage in all sorts of disingenuous social media nonsense – from posting little smiley faces on other reviews (or little angry faces for anything written by the lifeless SCMP critic) to pimping links in comment sections. The dopamine hit that follows reciprocal likes is pleasant, but my descent into this behaviour worries me. If I c

Quite naively, I hoped that semi-literate prose would be enough to garner a respectable following for my little blog. Not the case. Increasingly, I’ve been forced to engage in all sorts of disingenuous social media nonsense – from posting little smiley faces on other reviews (or little angry faces for anything written by the lifeless SCMP critic) to pimping links in comment sections. The dopamine hit that follows reciprocal likes is pleasant, but my descent into this behaviour worries me. If I carry on this way it won’t be long before I’m trading sexual favours for shares. 

Before I debase myself to that extent, I decided to explore the limited number of followers I’ve amassed thus far. There are some bots (actually quite a few), a number young girls who have acquired a five-figure following by holding up cups of bubble tea and a couple of real-life friends feigning interest. In and amongst these are a few fine restaurants, one of which was Elementary, a new neighbourhood restaurant in Tai Hang. 

Either Elementary recognised that I write honestly about the restaurants I visit and are absolutely confident in their fare. Or, they simply liked a photo I happened to have taken. If it's the former (and I do hope it is) they were right to be confident.


Like its sister restaurant Catch, in Kennedy Town, Elementary’s doors are open at all the requisite mealtimes, but it’s the weekend brunch for which it’s quickly become famed. 

The menu is a dreamy love letter to hangovers. Dishes such as Feathered eggs (duck ragu, fried eggs, chorizo, grana padano cheese, flat bread), the Brekkie Burger (fried eggs, melted cheddar, tomato, panko’d avo, vegemite) and the Holy Kale (mushroom, quinoa, fingerling potato, cherry tomato, crispy poached egg) will gently supressthe most stomping of tequila-induced pain. 

With it being brunch, we each opted for an egg-based dish. In a city in which most eggs resemble the texture and taste of playdoh, we all rejoiced in perfectly cooked eggs. Be them scrambled on sourdough, poached on smashed avocado, fried on duck ragu or slow cooked on fries, each egg possessed the perfect consistency and burst open with the lightest scratch of a fork, oozing sumptuous orange yolk.  

My brekkie Burger was wonderfully satisfying. The deep-fried – sorry, ‘panko’s – avocado and vegemite gave the
dish a meaty depth, typically absent from most vegetarian breakfast dishes.

Whereas most chefs deplore changes to their dishes, at Elementary additional items are actively encouraged. All of the accoutrements of white middleclass-ness are on offer. Chorizo with your panna cotta. Why not? Halloumi with your oysters. Sure. Extra avocado with your avocado. Great idea. This essentially means you can create your own brunch dish. 

Despite adding a side of hash brown (which sadly was shop bought and deep-fried) and bacon, I couldn’t resist ordering an additional plate of Fancy Poutine. With oxtail gravy and blue cheese, the poutine was an opulent, artery-clogging masterpiece. Both my brain and stomach were telling my hand not to reach for yet another helping, which my hand obstinately ignored.

All-in-all, our brunch at Elementary was really rather good. Us Brits are not to prone to paying complements. When we do so it’s usually with exaggerated deference and understatement. The most gushing compliment one can pay another is that they are a good egg. And that’s perhaps the most appropriate description of Elementary; it is – literally and figuratively – a good egg.
