Okay I admit that I like to torture myself sometimes by eating really spicy food even in the dead of the heat in the summer so I can sweat and sniffle while treating my tongue to some good numbing sensation. This shop is where I seek out my secret pleasure. This place is located on the side of Gold Fish street and you can't miss the aromatic smell of the chili peppers wafting out onto the streets. This place is located on the side of Gold Fish street and you can't miss the aromatic smell of the chili peppers wafting out onto the streets. Technically it's a food stand but they do provide a standing air conditioned space next door for patrons to eat their noodles.
You can order the noodles as it with varying degrees of spiciness (I usually get small spicy) or you can add the other snacks they sell into it as well like fish balls or pig blood. Upon handing you the noodle, they will also ask if you like complementary toppings like peanuts, preserved vegetable, and cilantro.
As I take my first bite, the spiciness doesn't hit yet. It slowly seeps in after the third or fourth bite after which I'm hook on the numbing taste of the soup. The potato noodle is chewy and has absorbed the taste of the soup. I can't help but keep slurping the noodles even as my nose is running because of the spiciness. I like the preserved vegetable as well as it provides a different taste of saltiness as I'm trying to rest between bites of noodles. For just $18 this makes for a very good and fulfilling meal. You may want to head next door for some coconut juice though as you will be thirsty afterwards.
